About stak.sh

stak.sh shows which developer tools people actually use, and lets developers publish the stack they work with.

What it does

Every week stak.sh collects public numbers about developer tools: package downloads, GitHub activity, Stack Overflow questions, Wikipedia pageviews, mentions on forums, job ads and developer surveys. Each tool gets its share of its category on every source, and the shares are combined into one index. How it works lists every source and how the numbers are put together.

Stack profiles

Developers can sign in with GitHub and publish the tools they use, with how long and how well they know them, on a public profile at stak.sh/@you. Verified, opted-in profiles also feed the community signal: how many developers have a tool on their stack, published only as aggregates.

Why

Popularity rankings usually rest on a single source, and every source is skewed: downloads are inflated by CI, stars measure attention, surveys are self-selected. Putting many sources side by side, and saying where each one is biased, gives a more honest picture of where tools are heading.

Who runs it

stak.sh is run by an independent developer. Questions, corrections and tool suggestions are welcome: see contact.
